2003-2004 Las Palmas, Gran Canary

Self-employed, investigating how the architectural system, codes and regulations work and how to obtain permissions etc. Legalisation of a project already built (illegally) which involved going through the whole system to obtain the building permit. Attending courses arranged by the College of Architects on project management and good practice as seen by the College of Architects here in the Canaries.

2002-2003 England

Pell Frischmann Projects, London.
The work included the investigation, design and specification for a fall arrest system at Brize Norton RAF station. I also completed the sketch and preliminary designs for a school, designed a replacement cow shed, (with the work being carried out in various phases and investigated all the requirements for cow sheds). The remaining work was altering and producing new drawings for the mechanical and electrical engineers at PFP, redesigning and correcting work drawn by architectural technicians and helping the year out students with management and construction problems. All the work was completed using AutoCAd 2000 and 2002.

1993-2002 Venezuela

2001-2002
Designed and built extensive alterations to a school. The design work included all external spaces, reorganising classrooms, toilets and external play spaces. I supervised other builders who were working to my designs and supervised my own workers. I designed the next phase of the work, which is now complete, that includes a new classroom block, offices, toilets and a canteen.

2000-2001
Designed and helped build a small community chapel and multi-purpose space.

1998-2000
Designed and supervised the building of a community church that holds 350 worshippers.

1998-2000
Designed and built all the alterations to a house owned by a rebirther/astrologer. The work included two special swimming pools with solar heating, changing rooms, a caney (a type of local pavilion), plant room, parking areas and all external recreational spaces, and within the house, bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen with dining space and living room.

1996-1998
Designed and built two buildings in pressed adobe (earth bricks): a private house and a petrol station. (from this work I gained extensive experience in the use of earth as a building material). I also gave workshops on the making and use of adobe. Also during this time I designed a local community library and several low cost self build housing schemes for local cooperatives.

Designed and built several extensions to houses and built my own house.

1993-1995
Working for "Arquitectura Contemporaneo" in Caracas designing the interiors for Everready VenCa (which was built), Banco Progreso, restaurants and the complete design for a private house.

1988-1992 London

Officescape/Charles Pfister
Senior Architect
Design and fitout for No 1 London Bridge for BAII. The contract was a very fast fast-track contract and Officescape/Charles Pfister were three months behind in the production of contract information and after three months of my involvement, we were back on schedule. In the course of this contract I travelled to Switzerland, Germany, Sweden and various parts of England to finalise and coordinate all the details and design new details where necessary and to coordinate all the other consultants´ designs especially in the services area. Total area of the project was 11,000m2. For this project I was managing a team of 7 architects and several technicians. Value of contract approx. 11 million pounds for the executive floors which was my principle work. Total cost for the project that included trading floors, special computer rooms, offices and UPS generator rooms was in excess of 40 million pounds sterling

DEGW
Senior Architect
Design and fitout of Freshfields in the new headquarters building in Fleet Street London, during the works I had extensive meetings with the client, coordinating all the designs and client requirements, organising all the drawing production and on site supervision in general, all the sound testing and the construction of sound proof meeting rooms. During the project I travelled to Denmark to finalise the design of the partitioning system used in the fitout. Total area of the project was 68,000m2, for this project I was managing a team of 12 architects, interior designers and technicians. Value of fit-out contract approx. 20 million pounds.

1978-1988 Conseco (Pell Frischmann)

1978-1989

Architect in Saudi Arabia for 1 year acting as supervisor and teaching Saudi Arabian A/E firms how to work to American/European standards and methods.

Orsi and Koerner, architects and engineers, Rome Project architect for a "neighbourhood" development in Misurata, Libya. The project included 350 dwellings varying in size from two bedroom worker flats to five bedroom executive houses, a large shopping centre with offices on the first floor, a mosque, several nursery/primary schools and a secondary school. Total value around $100m at that time. I was responsible for all the layouts, landscaping, housing and commercial centre layouts, and also made the presentations to the client in Misurata, libya.

Pell Frischmann (Hong Kong)
Architect working on the HSBC evaluation study project investigating the client requirements and confirming that the architects were working to the latest bank model. This study lasted three months and included extensive meetings with the HSBC executive staff.

Various practices in London including Owen Luder Partnership, working on commercial, housing and Home Office projects, R Seifert Ltd on commercial projects.
